Menlo
Park , CA - July 13, 2001 - Award-winning filmmakers Dorothy
Fadiman and Steve Michelson today announced that Concentric
Media and Lobitos Creek Ranch have reached an agreement to
develop the original documentary MOMENT BY MOMENT, The Healing
Story of Molly Hale
Fadiman,
an Oscar-nominated and Emmy award-winning director, said partnering
with The Studio at Lobitos Creek adds significantly to Concentric
Media's capacity to produce important films. "I see myself
as a carpenter, someone who builds small houses while pulling
together materials and exchanging skills with a number of
sources. For the last 25 years, I assumed I had to reach out
in many directions to find the range of elements and services
needed to get a film completed: a duplicator for the dubs,
a graphic artist for the titles, a different location for
the on-line prep, and so on. Steve Michelson has created a
situation at The Ranch, which is a filmmaker's dream. He has
brought together a constellation of equipment and
talent, which I never imagined I could find in one place,"
said Fadiman.
MOMENT BY MOMENT is the inspiring story of Aikido teacher
Molly Hale's physical and psychological recovery from a car
accident that left her partially paralyzed, with a prognosis
of a lifetime as a quadriplegic. The film follows her story
as she is learning to move again in ways that defy medical
science.
Michelson, who founded One Pass Film & Video in San Francisco
in 1975, has worked with Fadiman on several projects during
the past 25 years. He said The Ranch's agreement with Concentric
Media is based on creating "outreach" programming
that results in "positive change" in people's lives.
"Working on projects like MOMENT BY MOMENT with filmmakers
like Dorothy Fadiman is the reason we built our new studio
in the first place. Dorothy is exactly the type of committed
and passionate filmmaker the ranch is designed to support.
We are creating a venue for experienced independent documentary
filmmakers in The Bay Area, which when completed, will offer
what Hollywood does for feature filmmakers in Southern California,"
said Michelson. Fadiman who, along with Michelson, has her
company in the San Francisco Bay Area, said Lobitos Creek
is "a hub where all of the pieces of a project can come
together. The Studio acts as Executive Producer. This kind
of support frees me to expand my own thinking because my technical
needs are being met in a creative atmosphere. This means I
can focus on doing what I do well: directing independent films,
and building the grassroots outreach so that the films will
enjoy a long and busy life for years after they are complete,"
said Fadiman.
